County Assessor’s office closed Friday

ADA — Pontotoc County Assessor’s office will be closed Friday, May 16, for the annual Northeast District County Assesesors Conference in Stillwater.

The office will re-open Monday, May 19, at 8 a.m.



Legislative Breakfast set

ADA — Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Legislative Breakfast on Friday, May 16th at J. D.’s Café, 911 N. Broadway. Representative Todd Thomsen will be the featured speaker. The breakfast buffet will begin at 7:00 a.m. For more information, phone the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce at 580-332-2506.



Registration for hip-hop due

ADA — Registration is due May 16 to participate in a Hip-Hop workshop by Julie Weems tol be held May 24. Participants will perform at the May 30 Relay for Life event. Funds are to benefit Relay for Life and American Cancer Society. The cost is $15 per person. Beginners will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with an 8:45 check-in. Advanced will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a 10:15 check-in. Phone Julie Weems at 436-8326 for more information.



Ada Boys and Girls Club enrollment begins

ADA — Ada Boys and Girls Club accepts enrollment for Super Summer Camp. Cost for camp is $50 per week with one-time yearly membership fee of $15. Enrollment is limited and deadline is sign-up is Friday, May 16.



Veterans Appreciation Day set at ECU

ADA — Veterans Appreciation Day, hosted by East Central Unviersity Veterans Upward Bound, is 11 a.m. The program is 11-11:30 a.m. in the north lounge of ECU Memorial Student Union. A come-and-go reception is 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the dining area of ECU University Center. Veterans can register for door prizes. 3-on-3 Basketball

ADA — 3-on-3 Basketball is slated at Miko Gym in Ada with first, second and third place prizes. Age groups are 10-12, 13-15 and 16 and above. Five man/woman rosters are $50 each. The funds benefit the Stonewall 2008 Senior Class. Phone 580-272-7197 to register.



Indian Taco Fundraiser

ADA — An Indian taco fundraiser is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Miko Gym in Ada. Taco and dessert cost $5. Free delivery is available in the Ada area. Funds are to support th eStonewall 2008 Senior Class. To pre-order, phone 580-272-7197.

Firing range open at MSC

Murray State College Firing Range is open to the public. Hours of operation are scheduled for May 17. For more information, phone Gun Range supervisor Roger Lee at (580) 221-1635.

Walk this weigh

ADA - Walk This Weigh will be Wintersmith Park at 5:30 p.m. Participants will meet on the east side of the park, beside the monkey pens. Health information, pedometers and water will be provided. All participants who complete the mile will be entered in a drawing to win door prizes. PTC offers quick books

ADA — Pontotoc Technology Center is offering a series of QuickBooks classes through June 17, 2008. Some of the lessons include entering sales information, making deposits, paying sales tax, and payroll. To obtain a list of these classes and times, contact Stacey Golightly at Pontotoc Technology Center at 580-310-2235. The next class is May 20, 2008



Singer to perform

ADA — Gospel singer Jean Morgan will sing for the residents of Ballard Nursing home at 2:30 p.m.



Chapter of Depression Bipolar Support Alliance to meet

ADA — The State Chapter of Depression Bipolar Support Alliance will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. The meetings will be held at Rolling Hills Hospital, 1000 Rolling Hills Lane, Ada. The groups are free.
