FRIDAY

SEPT. 25, 2009

• The Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center will be dedicated at 4 p.m. Free tours will be conducted from 3 to 3:45 p.m. and from 5 to 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 25 and from 5 to 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 26.

• Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center grand opening performance “ECU — A Year in the Life: Celebrating 100” takes place in the Ataloa Theatre at 7 p.m.

• Pontotoc County Fair exhibits and premium checks are ready and need to be picked up at the OSU Extension Office, 1700 N. Broadway.

• Stonewall Community will be having its annual community picnic and the event is free to the public. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Indian tacos and hot dogs will be served. Donations will be accepted at the door to support Stonewall Elementary School. If interested in setting up a booth, phone Terri Lovelis, picnic coordinator, at (580) 265-4243.

• Al-Anon meets Fridays at 8 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 17th Street and Broadway in Ada.



SATURDAY

SEPT. 26, 2009

• Alcoholics Anonymous Men’s Only Discussion Group meets at 8 a.m. at Central Church of Christ. Closed meeting. For more information, phone Craig R. at 580-399-8838.

• Valley View Regional Hospital is offering a $10 prostate screening from 9 a.m. to noon which includes a PSA lab test and digital rectal exam. An appointment is necessary. For more information or to register, phone 580-421-1467.

• Free tours of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center will be conducted from 5-6:45 p.m. as part of the grand opening festivities.

• Francis Auxiliary hosts an Indian taco supper from 5-7 p.m. at Francis City Hall. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds go toward Christmas packages for the Francis community.

• Ada American Legion Post 72 sponsors bingo Saturday nights at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Post hall is located at 3529 N. Broadway, Ada. Refreshments are available. Proceeds finance veterans and their families, scholarships and Boys and Girls State.

• Byng Excellence in Education Foundation, also known as B.E.E.F., is having a brisket dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the Byng school cafeteria. Tickets are $10 each or $25 for a family of four (2 adults and 2 children) and includes brisket, sides, drink and dessert. There will also be a silent auction, and the high school jazz band will be performing.

SEPT. 28, 2009

• Ada City Schools ILO (gifted and talented program) Advisory Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. in the office of the Ada Board of Education, 324 W. 20th.

• ECU faculty Mark Hollingsworth and Starla Hibler present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre.



TUESDAY

SEPT. 29, 2009

• Preschool storytime for children ages 3 to 5 years will be held Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. at Ada Public Library.

• East Central University music department student recital takes place at 3 p.m. in Faust auditorium.

• Yancy Spivey, former business owner and president of Arvest Bank, will be leading a “Make Your Business Grow Through Financial Savvy” workshop Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at Pontotoc Technology Center. • Latta Public Schools will be holding a community meeting at 7 p.m. in Latta School Auditorium. The purpose of the meeting is to receive input from the community concerning the district’s proposed capital improvement plan. The meeting is open to all parents, patrons and interested members of the community.

SEPT. 30, 2009

• Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Road. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 332-6506.

• A dance is held every Wednesday at the Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.

OCT. 1, 2009

• Pontotoc National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) meets at 7 p.m. in Valley View Regional Hospital conference room next to the cafeteria. Pontotoc NAMI is a support group and anyone with an interest in mental health issues may attend.
