• Ombudsman volunteer workshop takes place from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Ada Nutrition Center, 804 Oak Street. For more information, phone Anita Harper at SODA (800-211-2116 or 580-920-1388).

• Chickasaw Nation Get Fresh! Program class is 10 a.m. and noon at Ada Family Life/Wellness Center, 229 W. Seabrook. The cooking shows are free and open to the public. For more information, phone 580-272-5506.

• Divorce/Bereavement Support Group meets at 7 p.m. at The Compassion Outreach Center, 1124 Cradduck Road. The group offers support for those who have lost a loved one through divorce or death. For more information, phone Tom at 332-6506.

• A dance is held every Wednesday at the Irving Community Center, 704 N. Oak, from 7:30-10 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.

• Governor Brad Henry has declared October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in the State of Oklahoma. Silent Witness silhouettes will be displayed at the Family Crisis Center at 605 East 12 in Ada. On the evening of Oct. 8, the outside lighting on the dome of the State Capitol will be changed to purple — the color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

• A taco sale will be from 4-7 p.m. at the Chickasaw Senior Site, 1005 Chamber Loop. A pie auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for taco, drink and dessert. Phone 436-1006, for call-in orders of two or more.

• “Tail Waggin’ Tutors” Reading Program will be held from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Ada Public Library. Beau, a certified therapy dog, will be in the library to provide children a chance to practice their reading skills in

• Ada Mutiple Sclerosis Support Group meets at 6 p.m. at the Ada Reed Building. Meeting is open to persons with MS, their spouse, family and friends. A meal will be provided.  For more information, phone 580-436-4629 or 580-436-7981.

• CPASA annual meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Pennington Creek park Pavilion, Tishomingo (in case of rain meet at Pennington Lodge, north of Tishomingo on Elks Road). The agenda includes election of new board members, president’s report on 2008-2009 activities, report on OWRB Arbuckle-Simpson study completion and implementation of SB288 and membership dues payment.
