Fishers celebrate golden anniversary

Stratford Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fisher, Stratford, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary April 19 at Life Point Church (formerly known as the Masters House) in Stratford, located at the corner of State Highway 177 and Eighth Street. Friends and family are welcome to join the celebration, with the renewing of wedding vows beginning at 2 p.m. and reception following.

Charles and Audie Fisher were united in holy matrimony April 21, 1958, at Stratford Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Mr. Fisher graduated from Vanoss High School in 1956 and joined the United States Air Force in 1957. During his military career he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service in Vietnam as a C-130 Aircraft Flight Engineer. As an aircrew member, he logged 1,000 combat hours and flew 700 missions over a three-year period. After retirement from the Air Force in 1977, the couple made their home in Stratford where they have lived the past 31 years. During this time he was employed with Stratford Public School System as a bus driver and custodian, retiring in 1999. The Fishers have been active members of Byars Pentecostal Holiness Church for 30 years. Mr. Fisher serves as a deacon and Mrs. Fisher serves as church secretary.

Mrs. Fisher attended Stratford public schools until her marriage, later receiving her high school diploma in 1965 from Vilonia High School in Vilonia, Ark. She has been a homemaker most of her life and supported her husband’s military career. She has been a Sunday school teacher and piano player at her church as well as being active in the women’s ministries. The couple’s favorite past time is camping and fishing.

The couple has three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They include son Clint Fisher and wife Jamee, with children Vanessa and Nathan of Stratford; daughter Darla Ruminer and husband John Ruminer, with children Kenneth and Stephenie Young of Fairfax, Okla.; son Charles Vernon Fisher (deceased 2002,) with children Stephanie and Stacey of Stratford; and one great-grandchild Seth Young, son of Kenneth and Penny Young.
