With one of the precious final four berths in the Class 5A state tournament on the line, Ada’s Lady Cougars obviously decided not to look a gift horse — er, Buffalo — in the mouth in Saturday afternoon’s area consolation championship at Broken Arrow High School.
Ada baseball team to hit ground running
Ada baseball was already facing a rebuilding year after losing an outstanding group of seniors off last season’s state tournament squad, and the Cougars got even younger when Willy Gould — expected to be the team’s clean-up hitter, third baseman and No. 1 starting pitcher — decided to play soccer instead of baseball this spring.

Byng falls to buzzer-beater
During a sensational post-Christmas run which had seen them win 16 of 19 games heading into Thursday afternoon’s Class 4A area loser’s bracket showdown with old rival Tecumseh at Western Heights High School, the 15th-ranked Byng Pirates had prided themselves on executing in the clutch.
Lady Tigers roar into Class 2A State
After qualifying for their school’s second Class 2A girls state tournament in four seasons, members of the top-ranked Konawa Lady Tigers were due to rent a movie or two and retire to coach Gordon Garner’s house for a post-game celebration Friday night.
