Club News

ADA — Esther Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church met recently for breakfast.  The meeting was at J. D’s Cafe with Bernice Shiplet’s group in charge.   Mamie Farnham was guest.

The president, Nell Sliger, opened the meeting and gave the prayer. The secretary, Mary Helen Newton, read the minutes of the last meeting and gave the May’s report. Bea Barrick, treasurer, gave her report.  All members were reported on and cards sent.

Members voted earlier in class they would donate to the Liz Eaker’s mission trip to India.

 The devotional was given by Marie Spears on “God’s Promises.” She read different verses from the Bible and told how they applied to us.  Many of the class gave their special verses also.

Mary Sue Roberts gave some of great stories.

 Members voted to recognize Harold Ware, senior adult minister, by sending a “thank you” and “birthday card” to him.

Next meeting will be July 7 with Viola Dew’s group in charge.

 Those attending were guest Mamie Farnham and members Sue Asklund, Bea Barrick, Viola Dew, Vonnye Elkins, Lois Gilley, Emogene Miller, Essie Roark, Mary Sue Roberts, Bernice Shiplet, Nell Sliger, Marie Spears, Willie Mae Williams and Mary Helen Newton.



Prime Timers

Roberto Escamilla presided at the May 19 Ada Prime Timers meeting and buffet at JD’s Café.  Dorothy Escamilla led in the pledge of allegiance and George Seaton gave the invocation.

 The April minutes were read by the secretary and approved as read.  Bryna Lane gave the treasurer’s report.  It was a pleasure to have eight guests in attendance who were introduced and invited to join our membership.  May birthdays were recognized and members who were ill were remembered.

Mary Sue Roberts entertained the group with humorous stories.  Patsy Beasley introduced Jimmy Tignor and Katrina Thompson who are employed as nurses with the Chickasaw Nation Hospital but enjoy singing with the Red Barn singers as a sideline. They sang a selection of gospel and country songs accompanied by Tignor at the guitar.

M. E. Carr announced that Sen. Susan Paddack will be the speaker for the June 15 meeting.

 The following guests were present:  Jimmy Tignor, Katrina Thompson and her daughter, Brandy, J. W. and Ladell Brown, Betty Rigsby, and Virginia and Don Ramsey.  Members present included Leland and Mary Helen Newton, Mary Sue Roberts, Neal and Patsy Beasley, L. T. and Betty Williams, Carol and Tommy Vass, Mary Lou and M. E. Carr, Treva and Wendell Gurley, Joann and Andy Hood, Duane Doane, Betty Parham, Lanny Sliger, Ruth Ann Taylor, Dorothy and Roberto Escamilla, Willie Mae Williams, Mildred and Kenneth Clinton, Betty and Vestal Cole, Bobbie Sachs, Jackie and Ted Savage, Alma Hogan, Margaret and Paul Sandmann, and Bryna Lane.
