Xi Delta Gamma elects officers

ADA — Holly Sewell was the hostess for the April 6 meeting of Xi Delta Gamma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Co-hosted by Brenda Hall, the members enjoyed a variety of food and drink.

President Mary Story led the business meeting where officers for next year were elected. Officers for the 2009-2010 year will be President, Cindy Keefer, Vice-President, Lani Vasconcellos, Treasurer, Brenda Hall, and Secretary, Pamla Armstrong. City Council representative will be Belinda Runnells and Sharon Beasley will be the alternate. Members voted on Woman of the Year, Miss Sunshine, Miss Ready, Willing, and Able, Miss Congeniality, and Best Program. Winners were to be announced at the May meeting.

During the treasurer’s report members were told the donation toward a scholarship to Camp Goddard was paid. Also discussed were member participation in Relay for Life scheduled for May 29 and the provision of food to the Compassion Care Outreach Center on Sept. 22, 2009. Mary Story reminded members of the Founders Day dinner April 27. Attendance at the state convention was discussed as was a weekend trip to Dallas to be held sometime during the summer.

On April 27, four chapters of Beta Sigma Phi met for the Annual Founders Day dinner. The dinner, held at Doc’s Bar-B-Q and Steak House, was attended by 34 members from the four chapters. Those attending from Xi Delta Gamma were President Mary Story, Pamla Armstrong, Sherry Barnes, Sharon Beasley, Vickie Bess, Brenda Hall, Cindy Keefer, Holly Sewell and Lani Vasconcellos.



Farm Bureau

More than 70 farm and ranch leaders, along with Oklahoma Farm Bureau staff,, attended the annual Congressional Action Tour in Washington D.C. March 30- April 2. Attending from Pontotoc County were Bill and Janet Gibson and Roger and Cindy Stinchcomb. While in the nation’s capital, they met with Sens. Tom Coburn, Jim Inhofe and Rep. Tom Cole. They discussed issues such as the “cow tax,” President Barack Obama’s proposed budget cuts and bailouts and farm truck weight legislation.

A legislative meeting was held at the Aldridge on March 20. After the meal, each elected official was given time to talk about their work. Loaves of bread baked by Farm Bureau Women were given to them to thank them for all they do.

A Hetzi Juniper was planted at the Farm Bureau office building as a community project.

Five Pontotoc County Farm Bureau women attended the Farm/City Festival at the state Capitol April 21. Women across the state took food to serve 500 state legislators and their staff. They also visited offices of state Rep. Todd Thomsen and state Sen. Susan Paddack to talk about farm and ranch issues.

The County Farm/City Festival was held at the Pontotoc County Courthouse May 8. Sixty-eight county officials and their staff were served brunch by the Farm Bureau women.

Used magazines were taken for donation to Stonegate Nursing Home and Stonewall Nutrition Center.

Women’s Day was in Seminole May 30 and Summer Safety Camp will be June 15-17.

Attending the May 11 meeting were Mildred West, Janet Gibson, Helen Denslow, Kathryn Floyd and Christy Smith.
