Mature Melody Makers entertain Ballard's residents

Mature Melody Makers

Mature Melody Makers, an adult singing group of First Baptist Church, met at the church June 4 for a short practice and business meeting. Harold Ware, director, opened the meeting. He reviewed the names of friends and relatives on the sick list and gave a special prayer for them. The group went to Ballard’s Nursing Center to perform a program for the residents.

The choir saing “ I Love to Tell the Story,” “Bringing in the Sheaves,” “Bring Them In,” “I’ll Fly Away,” “Mansion over the Hilltop,” “The Gloryland Way,” “Bye and Bye,” “I Feel Like Traveling On,” “Without Him,” “Amazing Grace,” “Victory in Jesus,” and “Because He Lives.”

The Ladies Ensemble sang “Sweeter as the Days Go By.” Dr. Don Stafford gave a poem he had written, “The Painting.” Mary Sue Roberts entertained the group by telling humorous stories. Harold Ware gave the closing prayer and thanked the management for their hospitality.

Those participating in the program were Virginia Girdley, Dr. Don Stafford, Mary Sue Roberts, Doug and Tubby Davis, Kenneth and Vonnye Elkins, Don and Martha Martin, Sue Asklund, Holt and Mary Kay Sodeman, Betty Wynn, Doris Brooks, Jean Hayworth, Willie Mae Williams, Jackie Wells, Harold Ware, Carl Gilley, Dolores Moore, Marie Spears, Nell Goforth and Viola Dew.

Following the program, the group went to Pig Skin Bar-B-Q for lunch. Joining the group for lunch were Rev. Jerry Wells and Wiley and Carol Winton.



VVRH Auxiliary

The Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary met May 21 in the classrooms for its monthly meeting. Nancy Riggle, president, opened and conducted the meeting. Chuck Peery gave the minutes of the last meeting which were approved. Janet Barrtt gave the treasurer’s report. Mary Sue Roberts entertained the group with humorous stories.

The group reviewed the Reorientation manual and took a test on it.

Diamond K (May 12)

Diamond “K” Kiwanis club met May 12 and was opened by president Robert Ardiana with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jerry Barrett led the prayer. Marlene Green introduced speaker Debra Cothran, RN. Alzheimers disease and the different stages, progression and how to find useful treatment information was the topic. Cothran gave information to help patients live in their homes. Tips included have good lighting, but not too bright, color schemes, different colors for couch and furniture. Put pictures up, i.e. for the bathroom, place a picture of a toilet on the door. Do not a lot of mirrors, no clutter, no uneven floors, no shiny floors. Keep noise to minimum. Do not have big groups of people; one on one visits are best. Neal Beasley was scheduled for surgery May 18. Patsy Beasley returned home from her trip to London and Paris. Wintersmith parties were scheduled and Juanita Sutton closed the meeting with a special reading of prayer requests.

Diamond K (May 19)

Diamond “K” Kiwanis of Ada met May 19. President Robert Ardiana opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Eldon Billings led the opening prayer. Linda Wells introduced the speaker, Jae L. Stilwell, manager of the McSwain Theater. Stilwell spoke on the restoration of the theater built in the 1920s. Chickasaw Nation purchased the theater and has completely restored it. The renovations include a new auditorium, gift shop, art gallery, reception area and offices. Seating capacity is 558. The first show scheduled will be Honky Tonk Tailgate Party. Dollar movies will be shown. A tentative opening is scheduled for the end of July.

Wintersmith Park parties are continuing and the train is running. Neal Beasley had his surgery May 18 and is doing well. Juanita Sutton, in honor of Memorial Day, did a reading called “Flounders Field.”

Twenty-six members and one guest were present. Memers present included Bob Ardiana, Jim Barlow, Jerry Barrett, Eldon Billings, Doc Bowen, JW Broan, M.E.
