Club News 7-2-09

Ada Diamond 'K' Kiwanis Club met June 2. Robert Ardiana, president, opened the meeting with the salute to the flag. Elvin Jaquess led prayer. Glen Childers introduced program speakers Rachel South and Bruce Huddleston of the Air Expo 2009.

This year, the air show will be held the weekend of June 19-20. The show has become a large regional event with coordinators expecting between 6,000 and 8,000 people. The event began six years ago as a tribute to Dr. Ray Stout, a navigator on a B-25 Mitchell Bomber. The first show will be Friday night from 4 to 6 p.m., a practice event, and at the Saturday show, the gates will open at 8:30. There will be hot air balloon rides, helicopter and airplane rides. Custom cars and motorcycles will also be on display. Huddleston reported the air show is geared toward families and veterans. A special ceremony will be held for the veterans. Diamond “K” Kiwanis of Ada met May 26 with Robert Ardian opening the meeting with the Flag Salute. Prayer was led by Elvin Jaquess. Speaker Gayla Callaway was introduced by Linda Wells. Callaway spoke on the homeless in Ada and AACES, Ada Area Community Emergency Services. AACES is primary in helping area homeless people. The non-emergency number 211 can provide help or answer questions relating to different services offered in the area. Callaway spoke on the need of funds for the homeless. Chickasaw Nation does a good part in providing funds for AACES as is United Way. Part of funding is for housing and utilities.

Neal Beasley reported Meals on Wheels is to begin June 13. He is recovering nicely. Charles Barrick said his niece is improving with her cancer treatment. Robert Ardiana requested prayers for his daughter for an upcoming biopsy.
