Local students win state essay contest

ADA — Chimney Hill Chapter of the Oklahoma Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution announce the state winners in the annual American History Essay contest.

These students were winners in the local contest and their essays were forwarded to the OSDAR American History Committee. At the state level, Haley Dean won first prize for seventh grade; Alicia Daniel’s essay won second place for the Christopher Columbus contest; and Andrew Daniel won third place for fifth grade.

These students along with other state winners were honored at the Youth Awards Reception held during the OSDAR State Conference. The event took place in the OSDAR meeting room of the Sheraton Hotel’s Reed Center, in Midwest City, May 15.

Twenty-one students, representing seven DAR chapters from across the state, participated in the DAR American History contests. Seventeen students participated in the American History Essay Contests, while four students competed in the Christopher Columbus Essay contest. The winning Essays for fifth through eighth grade, as well as the winning essay for the Christopher Columbus contest have been forwarded for competition in the South Central Division, American History, NSDAR.
