Several organizations report recent meetings
Retired Educators
ADA — Pontotoc County Retired Educators' Association met Friday, Sept. 18, at Ada Elks Lodge in Ada. President Ruth Ann Taylor greeted members and Dorotha Fenton gave the invocation.
Following lunch, Tom Stephens introduced the speaker, Ed Poblette from Compassion Outreach Center, Inc. Poblette is a minister at Central Church of Christ.
The Center is a non-profit organization that exists to assist those in need of limited chronic medical care but have no medical insurance, Medicare or Medicaid and live within Pontotoc County. Persons wanting more information, may phone 580-310-1021.
Taylor recognized Sue Jaquess for her hard work along with her organization of "callers" that contact members before each meeting. Doris Barrick was praised for her work on the membership/yearbook.
Mary Scalf gave updates on the types of activities that can be counted as volunteer hours; youth, church, organizations, community, tax prep and OREA officer work. She requested members to keep track of their hours and asked that they aim for a total of 5,000 hours this next year.
Taylor related requests from the organization "Project Invest." This organization helps young people be prepared for school. A few of the things needed were people to help in many areas including reading to the children, donations of books — new and gently used — and donations of money to purchase extras.
Dorotha Fenton, with the help of Sue Jaquess, decorated tables with autumn leaves and red and green apples strewn over the white tablecloths. Tom Stephens and Dortha Skelton won the centerpieces of ceramic pumpkins filled with an autumn arrangement.

Melody Makers
Mature Melody Makers, an adult singing group of First Baptist Church, met Sept. 3. Harold Ware opened the meeting and gave the opening prayer.
Ware received the list of those who were ill, recovering at home and in hospitals. Carl Gilley and Leonard Briley said prayers for the sick.
After a short business meeting, the group went by bus to Baptist Village to give a program for the residents. The Ladies Ensemble sang three songs and Dr. Don Stafford recited a poem he had written.
The choir sang a variety of melodies and Mary Sue Roberts entertained by telling humorous stories.
Those presenting the program were Betty Wynn, pianist; Harold Ware, director; Doug and Tubby Davis, Mary Sue Roberts, the Rev. Kenneth and Vonnye Elkins, Don and Martha Martin, Doris Brooks, Delores Moore, Ann Holman, the Rev. Holt and Mary Kaye Sodeman, Jean Haworth, Dr. Don Stafford, Carl and Lois Gilley, Jennie Girdley and Willie Mae Williams.
Following the program, the group went to China Buffet for lunch.

Mature Melody Makers met at First Baptist Church Aug. 6. Harold Ware was director and Betty Winn was pianist. Ware gave the opening prayer.
Following the business meeting, the group went to Heartland Plaza to present a program for its residents.
The Ladies Ensemble and choir sang several melodies. Mary Sue Roberts entertained by telling humorous stories.

Holt and Mary Kaye Sodeman and Willie Mae Williams. Joining the group for lunch were Jane Stafford and Floyd Holman.
VVRH Auxiliary
Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary met in the classrooms for its meeting Aug. 20. Nancy Riggle, president, opened the meeting.
Minutes of the last meeting were given by Chuck Perry. The treasurer's report was given by Bobbie Plumlee.
Catharine Choate, director, said a small pad and pencil which had been given to the patients in the past had been cancelled and request had been received for the auxiliary to furnish them in the future. Members agreed to buy the items.
The front of the pad will be inscribed with "Furnished by compliments of Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary."
Mary Sue Roberts entertained the group by telling humorous stories.
The nominating committee worked with the present officers and they agreed to serve another year. This was voted on and agreed to by all present.

Farm Bureau Women
Pontotoc County Farm Bureau Women met Aug. 10 at the Farm Bureau office. The meeting was chaired by Mildred West.
Flag salutes were led by Christy Smith. Kathryn Floyd gave the devotional on "Let Your Light So Shine." She read a poem, "It Shows In Your Face." She then led prayer.
Janet Gibson read the minutes and gave the treasurer's report. Used magazines were taken for Stonegate Nursing Home and the Veterans Hospital in Sulphur.
The Farm Family was introduced. They were to be recognized at the Pontotoc County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting Sept. 29.
An area Farm Bureau meeting was scheduled for Aug. 27.
Plans were made to have a booth at the county fair. Handouts included information Fire Safety House, Emergency Phone Books, recipes, balloons and candy.

Farm Bureau Women's Committee officers for the new year were elected recently. They include Helen Denslow, chairman; Mildred West, vice chairman; Janet Gibson, secretary, Kathryn Floyd, devotions; a nd Christy Smith, book of events.
Kathryn Floyd, Mildred West, Helen Denslow and Christy Smith attended the 4-H Banquet. The Women's Committee presented Angel Wade, Byng, a plaque for their "Ag in the Classroom" work.
State Farm Bureau Convention will be held in Oklahoma Nov. 6-8. Four members will be voting delegates to the convention, attend FBW Business meeting and luncheon and attend the Gavel Club luncheon. Pontotoc County Farm Family of the Year, Cody and Melissa Moore, will be recognized at a banquet and compete for the Oklahoma Farm Family of the Year.
Four members plan to attend the FBW Winter Conference in Enid Dec. 4-5.
An office Christmas party was set Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. In lieu of gifts, members are to take paper goods and canned for the Adult Day Care Center. Door prizes will be given and each family will take a dish of food for the meal.
