A little sacrifice could help us all

Commercial-News

Editor:

Without a doubt, the most well-known quote President Kennedy made was, “Don’t ask what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”

Perhaps, if we would ask ourselves how we can help lower the nation’s debt, it would actually be lowered despite the fact each American could not make any difference alone. However, I think, collectedly we could.

I began to think about what I just said after reading St. Paul’s bulletin that had the phrase, without sacrifice there is no religion. I started thinking about how many people who I know and are on Medicaid as well as getting Link cards to pay for food, have more than one pet, eat fast food quite a bit, have sophisticated cell phones not to mention smoking cigarettes and drinking a great deal of pop and/or alcohol all the time.

If we would be satisfied with cell phones that are not the most stylish and/or wouldn’t drink as much as well as stop having other habits that are harmful to ourselves, we would have a little more money to pay for things such as food and more of our health expenses, thus we would be likely to have a part in bringing down the debt, at least a little.

Moreover, if we would learn how to sacrifice a little, some of us would be likely to learn that God doesn’t want people to have terrible lives when He provides for only what we absolutely need. As a result, we would probably want more religion in our lives, which not only would be very good for ourselves, but would help everyone.
