Winter feeding strategies meeting set in Ada Tuesday

Justin McDaniel OSU Extension Educator

The Pontotoc Co. Cattlemen’s Association will be hosting a winter feeding strategies meeting at the Pontotoc Co. Extension Office located at 1700 N. Broadway on Tuesday August 26, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. Topics to be discussed are Fertilizer Cost, Feeding Options, Stockpiling Grass, Cool Season Grass Establishment, Country Of Origin Labeling (COOL), and Identifying Inferior Cows in Your Cowherd. Refreshments will be served and this meeting is open to the public.

It’s Fair Time Again

The 92nd Annual Pontotoc Co. Free Fair is set to begin on Tuesday September 2nd. The theme for this year’s fair is Lights, Camera, Action. So it doesn’t matter if you consider yourself city folk or county folk; there will be something at the fair for you.

The weather over the past few weeks has been very unpredictable, but we still hope that people will bring their entries and support the tradition of making our county fair one of the finest in the area.

One of the first steps in preparing fair exhibits is to obtain a fair catalog and check the guidelines for your entries. Fair catalogs are available at the Extension Office. If possible, it is helpful if you can already have the class that your entry goes in determined. This helps speed up the entry process, because if your exhibit gets entered in the wrong class it can’t be properly judged.

There are several activities that will be happening at the fair this year. Shelly Scifres, our fair director, has done a wonderful job bringing some new ideas and activities. Here is a partial list of the upcoming activities for the fair.
