CATLIN — Defense was the key for the Salt Fork boys basketball team on Tuesday, slowing down Chrisman’s offensive attack to get the 66-59 win in Vermilion Valley Conference action.
The Storm held the Cardinals to 30 points in the first half and outscored them 22-12 in the fourth quarter to hold on to the win.
Jon Knoll had 18 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Storm, Joel Learnard had 16 points and Joe Pratt added 12. But Salt Fork head coach Aaron Hird said one player did not have the offense, but provided them with so much more.
“Brock Bodine had only three points, but he was our MVP today,” Hird said. “He was able to hold (Jordan) Kindred to 13 points, which is way below is average.”
With Kindred and Logan Ross only combining for 17 points, the Cardinals were led by Zack Parsons with 20 points and Matt Morris added 16.
The Storm are now 20-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference and will face off with Bismarck-Henning on Friday. Chrisman is now 18-5 and 7-3 and will host Westville on Friday.
