Local Roundup: Avenatti, Cohen finish at top half in state meet

STAFF REPORT

PEORIA The Class 1A IHSA cross-country state meet at Detweiler Park on Saturday saw two local runners finish in the top half of the competitors.

Chrisman/Georgetown-Ridge Farm’s Matt Avenatti took 60th out of 165 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds in the boys race, while Hoopeston Area’s Belinda Cohen was 44th out of 166 with a time of 19:32.

DACC wins second straight

PALOS HEIGHTS — Will Hamilton scored 16 points to lead the Jaguars as they went undefeated in the Moraine Valley Classic with a 91-62 win over the Northwestern University Club Team.

“This was a good chance for us to gain some confidence and work on some things both offensively and defensively,” DACC coach Mike Carpenter said. “We’re getting great contribution from our bench, which should help us down the road.”

KC Victor and Quintin Townsend each had 11 points for the Jaguars, Derwin Gage had 10, Darrell Stevenson had eight points and 10 rebounds and Tim Toler had eight points and nine rebounds. DACC as a team shot 52 percent from the field.

DACC is 2-1 and will host Wabash Valley College on Thursday.

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — The Inferno kept things interesting by tying things up at 2-2 at the end of the first period, but the Rampage scored eight unanswered goals to get the win.

Logan Boehm and Vincent D’Andrea scored goals for Danville with assists from Ray Kizzie, Elliott Holstrom and Boehm.

Taylor Ludy had 47 saves for the Inferno, who are 0-18 and will face the Rampage again today.
