Reunions
Blooming Grove Ex-Students Association
Blooming Grove Ex-Students Association activities were held on Oct. 17.
Bruce Lane, a 1950 graduate of Blooming Grove High School, was honored. In a surprise presentation by his brother Bob Lane, Bruce was informed that a scholarship in his honor had been endowed in an amount of $10,000.
Through the initiative of classmate Jean Hinkle, funding for the endowment was provided by family and friends in appreciation of Lane’s continuing leadership of the Ruth Edmundson Ramsey Scholarship Fund Inc. Future earnings from the $10,000 endowment will be awarded to deserving BGHS seniors.
In 1991, Lane met with members of the 1950 graduating class to share his vision of a scholarship program honoring longtime teaching icon Ruth Edmundson Ramsey. Earnings from the endowment funding of this program would be awarded to deserving BGHS graduates to support their pursuit of a college education.
In the ensuing 19 years numerous other families and friends of the Blooming Grove school system have endowed scholarships to honor or memorialize special individuals, requesting that the administration of the endowments be handled under the umbrella of the Ramsey Scholarship Fund.
The endowed scholarship in Lane’s honor is richly deserved. Under the leadership and unceasing dedication of Lane, a total of 396 students have received scholarships in the amount of $693,000 via the Ruth E. Ramsey Fund. And the program continues to grow.
Also honored at the Blooming Grove Ex-Students Association activities were Phil Golden, who was presented the Local Outstanding Ex-Student Award; Gerald Simpson, who was presented the Outstanding Out-of-Town Ex-Student Award; and Janice Tipping, who was presented the Outstanding Ex-Teacher Award.
