Nov. 7

American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will have meetings as scheduled. Executive committee and Legionnaires meetings are canceled for this month, unless a meeting is called. Nov. 9

Navarro County Historical Society will have its annual banquet at 7 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave. The speaker will be historical-western author Rick Miller, attorney for Bell County. His subject will be “Sam Bass,” which is the title of one of his books. Historian of the Year Award and Preservation Award will be presented. Reservations for the catered meal are $15 each and tickets may be purchased in advance from Pioneer Village. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Nov. 10-19

VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. This session will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 10, 12, 17 and 19. Participants are required to attend all sessions. Classes are $100 (cash only) for all sessions. All participants must pre-register. Nov. 11

Navarro County War Memorial Veteran’s Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on the Navarro County Courthouse northwest lawn. The speaker will be Staff Sgt. Jay Fondren. The ceremony will include Heaven Bound Choir from Northside Baptist Church, Les Grayson, Navarro County Sheriff’s Office honor guard, Rick Lamb and Tim Easley. Navarro College Veterans Organization will host a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Gooch Courtyard (between the Albritton Administration Building and the Gooch One-Stop Center) on the college campus. Woodland Cemetery Association will sponsor a Woodland gathering fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. The purpose will be to raise funds for purchase of street signs, flagpole, plant trees and uplift headstones for the African-American historical cemetery, one of the largest in Navarro County. The speaker will be Elder Joseph Johnson, pastor of Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ. Your help is needed to continue to beautify and restore this beautiful place. Big C Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. at Martin’s Music Hall, 201 S. Shakers and Scrapers will have one last cruise night of the year to help support the Christmas toy drive for The Salvation Army. Nov. 14-15

Hubbard Rodeo Association will have its Cowboy Mounted Shoot at 10 a.m. Nov. 14-15 at the Mooney Holloway Arena, State Highway 31, Hubbard. This is a rescheduled event due to a rain out. Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the nation’s fastest-growing equestrian sports. Mounted contestants compete in this fast-action, timed event using two .45 caliber single-action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared black ammunition. Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its next county executive committee meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St., in downtown Corsicana. Frank Steed and Michael Evans will report on the Texas Secretary of State 14th Biennial Election Law Seminar for county chairmen held Nov. 6-7 in Austin. Thomas Ratliff, candidate for Texas State Board of Education District 9, will attend and be given an opportunity to speak. McLain, who was injured Oct. 31 while unloading a four-wheeler, when he was hit by a truck which left the roadway.
