Barber, Littleton fuel ECU to split with Cameron

Lawton Kasey Barber went 3-for-4 from the plate and knocked in a run while Kelly Littleton hit a grand slam as East Central University’s softball squad beat Cameron 6-3 Saturday in the first game of a Lone Star Conference North doubleheader at Cameron Field.

Cameron pounded out 13 hits in the second game and beat the Lady Tigers 12-4 in five innings as the two teams split the doubleheader and the season series at 2-2.

ECU closed out the season at 21-34-1 overall and 9-15 in the LSC North while the Aggies moved to 34-28 and 12-12 while advancing to the LSC Postseason Tournament.

ECU 6, Cameron 3 (Game 1)

Cameron held a 1-0 advantage entering the fifth inning before ECU scored five unearned runs to snatch the win.

Stacia Lemons drew a two-out walk in the fifth. Kelli Dyson then reached on an error, advancing Lemons to second. Barber then singled home Lemons to tie it up at 1-all. Stefanie Watson then loaded up the bases on an infield single.

Littleton then came through with a grand slam to give the Lady Tigers a 5-1 lead. It was Littleton’s second homer of the year.

The Aggies scored a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 5-3.

Barber lifted ECU to a 6-3 advantage in the seventh when she scored off Rozalin Austin’s fielder’s choice RBI grounder.

Besides Barber’s 3-for-4 effort, Watson went 2-for-4 with a scored run.

Randee Crockett (9-11) got the win as she worked all seven innings, allowing three earned runs off four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Ashton McBride (22-17) took the loss as she allowed only one earned run, walked three and struck out three.

Sammi Adams had two of the four Cameron hits, including a solo-homer in the third inning. Teammate Shareena Pulse hit a two-run blast in the sixth for the Aggies.

Cameron 12, ECU 4 (Game 2)

Adams and Megan Young collected three hits and three runs batted in apiece in fueling the Aggies in the second game.

Adams hit two homers for Cameron and Pulse went deep once.

Littleton was the Lady Tigers’ only multiple-hitter, going 2-for-3, knocking in three runs with a third-inning single.

Watson’s sacrifice fly, scoring Lemons gave ECU a 1-0 first-inning advantage.

But the Aggies scored two runs in the bottom half of the first and added four more in the second for a 6-1 lead.

After Littleton’s three-run single pulled the Lady Tigers within 6-4, Cameron scored two in the bottom half of that frame to make it 8-4 and then scored four in the bottom of the fifth to win on the eight-run rule.

Dana McLaren (7-16) was tagged with the loss as she got relief help from Kayla Shepherd, who picked up a strikeout, but gave up a game-ending single. All 12 runs were charged to McLaren, but only seven were earned as she ended up walking one and striking out four. She did surrender 12 hits.

Giselle Guzman (5-6) got the win in relief for Cameron.
