Freshman of the year

East Central University third baseman Clint Bowker was named Lone Star Conference Co-Freshman of the Year while teammates Lucas Armenta and Kolbie Brown were named to the All-LSC Second Team, it was announced Friday by the league office in Richardson, Texas.
Bowker, out of Ada, batted .343 with two homers, one triple, four doubles and 19 runs batted in. He also collected 71 total hits on the season while holding a .401 slugging percentage.
He played and started in 55 of the team’s 56 games and had an .895 fielding percentage at the hot corner.
Armenta, a junior center fielder from Winslow, Arizona and transfer from Seminole State College, also started 55 of the team’s 56 games and batted .380 with a team-leading 82 hits, six home runs and seven triples to go along with 34 runs batted in. His seven triples were third in the LSC.
Armenta also had a .980 fielding percentage while committing only three errors. He hit three homers in an 11-10 win at West Texas A&M this season, including a tying two-run blast in the ninth inning to force the extra inning and a two-run shot to win it in the 10th.
Brown, a junior right-hander out of Latta High School and transfer from Seminole State, had the best earned run average on the team at 4.15 while posting a 4-5 pitching record. He made 13 pitching appearances, including 13 starts.
His best outings of the year came in a 10-0 win over West Texas A&M as he allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five in eight complete innings. He also gave up no earned runs off six hits with no walks and three strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over Northeastern State. Brown also allowe djust three earned runs off eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts as ECU beat national power Angelo State, 4-3.
It was also announced Friday that junior shortstop Tyler Pybas, of Ringling, was named to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for his academic achievements this past year. To make the all-academic team or commissioner’s honor roll, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average.
Pybas hit .343 with two homers, two triples, 11 doubles and 29 runs batted in to go along with a .444 slugging percentage. He also ended up with an .897 fielding percentage.
