East Central's Charlson slips to 43rd at Super Regional

AUSTIN, Texas East Central University’s Matt Charlson struggled with a score of 88 on Wednesday and was forced to settle for 43rd place at the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional Golf Tournament at the par-71 Grey Rock Golf Course.

Charlson, a sophomore from Chickasha, entered the day tied for 20th place after firing a 3-over 74 on Monday and a 4-over 75 on Tuesday.

Cameron’s Peter Svajlen captured medalist honors after going 5-under for the tournament with a 208 (68-70-70). He edged second-round leader Collin Mayer, of St. Edward’s, by one stroke. Mayer posted scores of 69-65-75.

St. Edward’s captured the team title by going 11-under for the tournament as all five participants placed in the top nine, including second, third and a tie for fourth.

ECU women's tennis team

to face Northeastern State at nationals

ADA — The East Central University women’s tennis team, ranked 30th in the nation, will take on 22nd-ranked Northeastern State Friday at 10 a.m. in a first-round encounter in the NCAA Division II national tennis tournament.

The Lady Tigers, of head coach Charlie Hibbard, enter nationals with an 11-5 record this spring.

Should ECU beat NSU, the Lady Tigers would then face sixth-ranked and host Abilene Christian on Saturday at 10 a.m.

ECU is led by the 31st-ranked player in the nation in sophomore Julia Arguello, who is 20-4 in singles play and 16-4 in doubles competition, in the past year. Senior Karlien Lotter is 16-3 in singles and 16-4 in doubles play while teaming with Arguello.
