Lady Tigers ousted from NCAA Division II Tennis Tourney

ABILENE, Texas - East Central University nabbed wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, but came empty the rest of the way as 22nd-ranked Northeastern State eliminated the 30th-ranked Lady Tigers from the NCAA Division II Tennis Tournament by a 5-2 count Friday at Abilene Christian’s Eager Center.
At No. 1 doubles, ECU’s Julia Arguello and Karlien Lotter teamed up for an 8-4 decision over Zuzanna Osinska and Emma Spirtovic, 8-4, while Claudia Gamarra and Angelita Detudamo, of the Lady Tigers, combined for an 8-3 win over Celine Martinez and Alicja Augustinska at No. 2 doubles.
NSU’s Michaela Romanova and Karoline Cichon beat Noelia Caballero and Erin Miller 8-1 in the other doubles match.
The RiverHawks then won singles matches at No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 to conclude the dual.
Osinska topped Arguello 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Spirtovic downed Lotter 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. At No. 5 singles, Cichon upended Caballero 6-1, 6-1, and Augustinska beat Kenda Coltrain 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
ECU ends the season with an 11-6 dual record while NSU advances to face ACU on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Abilene.
