Kudos to Byng public schools for their choice in selecting a new school superintendent for the upcoming school year. With 27 years servoce in Byng both as educator and administrator, Mr. Todd Crabtree is definitely the man for the job. And also a fond farewell goes out to current superintendent Steven Crawford, who steps down at the end of the school year. Good luck in your future endeavors!

Congrats to AHS student Lindsey Russell for being chosen to receive the Gates Millennium Scholarship, a full-ride scholarship funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

A round of applause goes out to the Byng drama and music departments for all the hard work that went into putting on “High School Musical.” That hard work paid off, and the show was a smashing success.

Kudos to the Vanoss eighth- and ninth-grade Academic Bowl team for taking first in the 2008 Oklahoma Junior Academic Bowl Association State Championship Tournament. Vanoss’ sixth-grade Academic Bowl team also won state earlier this year. Vanoss was one of the only schools in the state of Oklahoma to qualify for the state tournament in all four age levels.

Congrats to Pontotoc County Home and Community Education Association and Busy Hands Quilters Guild on hosting their quilt show last Friday and Saturday. Organizers gave patrons the chance to view dozens of beautiful, hand-crafted quilts.
