Oklahoma’s gas score card

Judd Morse Staff Writer

In an effort to fight ever-escalating prices at the pump, more and more Oklahomans are on the offensive, searching for substitutes to shelling out close to $4 per gallon for gas. Some have brought their bicycles out of storage bins and aired up the tires, determined to drive on dual-wheels to the workplace. Others have begun to rely on carpooling commutes, cabbies and Call-A-Ride.

And while some customers are content to contend with the diminutive discounts granted from giftcards or other penny-pinching practices, the more canny consumers have revived a custom more popular and practical than the practice of paying the piper at the pump. After all, if bell-bottoms and The BeeGees can be brought back from the 70s, why not something superior like the Oklahoma Gas Card?

Yes that’s right, the Oklahoma Gas Card, one of the lost treasures of previous generations — siphoning gas. This cost-effective practice of petroleum procurement grants its user fuel for mere pennies on the gallon. True, the Oklahoma Gas Card (OGS for short) doesn’t actually look like a standard gas card, instead more closely resembling a garbage bucket and siphon hose. And it doesn’t actually work at the gas pumps per se. The OGS is more commonly used late at night on some poor sap’s gas tank after they’ve filled up for almost four bucks a gallon, often with a copilot hiding in the bushes and providing lookout. But beware the hefty interest fee. If convicted, OGS users could face harsh late fees and mandatory long-term reeducation seminars.
