EDMOND —
A 19-year-old University of Central Oklahoma student has died from injuries suffered in a Friday morning accident, police said.
Breona Morris, 19, of Edmond, died Friday night, said Edmond Police spokeswoman Glynda Chu. No charges would be forthcoming, because Morris collided with the back of a vehicle legally waiting to make a turn, Chu said.
“She may have been distracted or the sun may have been in her eyes or both, but she ran into the back of the truck, just a horrible collision,” Chu said. “Her family donated her organs so that others might live.”
At 8:06 a.m. that morning, police received a report of a car accident at Danforth Road and Eagle Drive. Morris was taken by EMSA to OU Medical Center. She was unconscious at the time of transport and Friday afternoon she was listed in critical condition, Chu said.
A Ford F-350 dump truck was stopped in the eastbound lane on Danforth, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear to make a left turn into Kickingbird Estates. Morris, the driver of a 2001 Dodge Intrepid, also was driving in the inside eastbound lane on Danforth and failed to notice the truck had stopped.
Morris attempted to stop, but struck the right side of dump truck, went under it for a short distance and veered off to the right side of the roadway, coming to rest on the grass embankment.
No injuries were sustained by the truck driver, Jorge DeLuna, 41, of Warr Acres, or his passenger.
