Edmond student experiences trip of a lifetime
Some people wait a lifetime to travel internationally. Recently, Edmond’s Zach Stanley, a senior at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, was one of only eight students from the United States selected to attend New York University’s first Candidate Weekend in Abu Dhabi, the capitol and second largest city in the United Arab Emirates.

UCO’S ‘Passport to Turkey’ program
presents exhibit and presentation
As a part of its “Passport to Turkey” semester, the University of Central Oklahoma will host the Passport to Turkey Art Exhibition featuring ceramic pieces from some of Turkey’s most well-known artists through Friday in the lobby of Central’s Art and Design Building, with a special presentation about Turkey’s archaeological treasures at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Jane Huffaker is a perfect example of it’s never too late to learn a new trick, hobby or sport.
“About a year ago, Mom decided that she wanted to learn how to ride,” said her daughter, Kristin Huffaker. “She began taking weekly riding lessons at Valentine Ranch, a stable in Edmond.”

Edmond Light Horse 4-H Club members recently participated in the Oklahoma County Fair, which was at the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds.
The Edmond Light Horse 4-H Club is a 4-H project club with a focus on the study of equine. The club, established in the 1970s, is seeing some second-generation members.

Elementary receives fruit, vegetable grant
Orvis Risner Elementery has received a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable grant through the State Department of Education for the 2009-10 school year.
This grant is focused on promoting healthy eating habits and allowing students to try new fruits and vegetables. Three times a week every student receives a sample of a fruit or vegetable that is delivered to their classsroom.

Brent and Kennetha Greenwood, Edmond residents for the past 14 years, recently were honored as Indian Parents of the Year by the National Indian Education Association.
