North, Deer Creek lead the way in 5A and 6A regionals

One point was all the Edmond North boys cross country team needed on Saturday and they got it. Adam Godwin finished second overall to lead the Huskies past Norman by just a point and capture the Class 6A west regional title Saturday in Norman.
Memorial and Santa Fe will join the Huskies at the state meet next week at Mitch Park, as they finished third and fifth respectively. North was won the meet with 74 points, Memorial was third with 79 and Santa Fe took fifth with 120.
Norman’s Tanner Satterthwaite was the individual regional champion, after he finished the 5k course in 16:31. Teammate Parker Bowles third with a time of 16:48.
Godwin clocked a time of16:43 on Saturday and was just one of four North runners to place in the top 20. Senior Dylan Crawford finished 14th (17:27) while P.J. Osborn and Austin Mayer were 15th and 16th respectively.
Eric Talbert led the way for the Bulldogs with a fifth-place finish (16:59). Joining Talbert in the top 20 were teammates Alex Shook, Garrett Horn and Hayden Fox. Shook placed 12th (17:16), Horn was 15th (17:28) and Fox finished 19th (17:49).
For the Wolves it was sophomore Arya Bahreini leading the way with a 10th-place finish at 17:12.
Class 5A
The Deer Creek boys had no trouble locking up a spot in next week’s state cross country meet. Taler Buck and Aaron White finished one and two for the Antlers, who cruised to a first-place finish at the Class 5A regional meet Saturday in Norman.
Deer Creek, which placed its entire squad in the top 20, won the meet with 29 points. Bishop McGuinness was a distant second with 84 and El Reno was third at 133.
Buck cruised past the finish line in 17:05, and White was there just four seconds later. Jake Moslander was next for Deer Creek, finishing fifth (17:45). Kody Ewing placed 10th (18:09), K.J. Nigg was 13th (18:15), Christian Caviness finished 15th (18:18) and Jake Verdin rounded out the squad with an 18th-place finish (18:24).
The state cross country meet is schedule for Saturday at Mitch Park. The event will begin with the 4A girls race at 10 a.m. and will conclude with the 6A boys race at 2:45 p.m.
