SPRUIL: Playoff picture still cloudy

With most of the district’s already decided — a few key matchups still remain — it’s time to start looking at the playoff picture.

We know Edmond Memorial, Edmond North and Oklahoma Christian are in the playoffs. Deer Creek is on life support, while Oklahoma Christian Academy and Edmond Santa Fe are done for the year following Friday night.

And by the looks of things, there could be some interesting matchups, or potential rematches in week 11.

There are many possibilities for the Bulldogs and Huskies.

Mustang vs. Southmoore and Del City vs. PC North will ultimately decide who both teams face. It’s a jumbled up mess.

North can face Mustang, Southmoore, or even Lawton if things shake out right.

The Huskies defeated Mustang 38-28 earlier in the year, but Mustang has a new look with Daniel Farrow (PC West transfer), and have been virtually unstoppable since he joined the team at mid-season.

North probably wants Lawton, but that looks like a stretch, still it could happen.

Memorial can face Del City, Lawton or PC North. Like I said, it’s a mess.

The Bulldogs will likely face Del City, who narrowly defeated them earlier. It would be a good rematch, as Memorial had several turnovers in a tight contest.

OCS has third place pretty much in hand. Luther, the Saints next opponent, is going to the playoffs and can take third from OCS, but that’s a longshot. The Saints will face Oklahoma Bible Academy in the first round, as Hennessey has already been crowned district champion.

Deer Creek needs some help. If Deer Creek wins on Friday night at Lawton Mac, they will create a three-way tie with the Highlanders and Altus, which would then go to points. Altus would still probably get in over the Antlers based off the fact that they are already ahead of Deer Creek by nine points and Altus is facing Chickasha.

Lawton Mac is way ahead of both teams in points, so they are going no matter what.

Deer Creek needs to beat the Highlanders and have Altus lose, or beat the Highlanders by at least 15 points, and have Altus win by six points or less. Not a great situation to be in, but they are not mathematically out of it yet.

Plus, Deer Creek head coach Grant Gower felt good about tailback Colten Sander will be back this week. This would be a huge boost for the injury depleted Antlers if he’s back in some capacity. So there’s a chance, however slim it may be. Stranger things have definitely happened.

If they do make it, they would likely travel to Shawnee.

Santa Fe and OCA are out of the playoff equation, but both are looking to put together back-to-back wins. And both are real possibilities.

The Wolves face winless Moore, while the Eagles are facing Bowlegs, who has two wins against the same teams OCA has defeated. A pair of wins would help send both teams into the offseason.
