Game of week for 11-6-09

Eagles face challenge against Tigers

Deer Creek-Lamont will be trying to end Timberlake’s 20-game regular season winning streak and wrestle away the District C-3 crown from the Tigers tonight.

If Seiling (6-1, District C-3 and 8-1 overall) beats winless Braman, the Eagles (6-1, 8-1) could take the district title by beating Timberlake (7-0, 9-0) by eight or more points.

The Tigers have 105 points under the Arkansas Plan tiebreaker while DCLA has 89 and Seiling 58. A DCLA win under eight points would put the Eagles in second place in the district giving them a first-round home playoff game.

That might be simpler said than done.

Eight of Timberlake’s nine wins have been by the 45-point mercy rule. The only team to take the Tigers to the distance was Covington-Douglas (50-14).

The Tigers are averaging 52.9 points per game while allowing only 6.9. DCLA is averaging 50.1 points per game while allowing 16.1 points per game. Timberlake has turned the ball over only six times — one interception and five fumbles. They have forced 18 turnovers — 7 interceptions and 11 fumbles.

Thirteen different players have scored touchdowns for the Tigers, led by Johnny Ketterman’s 14 scores. DCLA is known its balance as well. Three Eagles have scored 10 or more touchdowns — Derric Richards (16), Connor Kirby (14) and Levi Reese (10). Quarterback Lawson Thompson has thrown for nine scores.

Timberlake’s last loss in the regular season came against Laverne, 50-26 on Oct. 26, 2007.
