Hollingsworth, Hibler to perform concert

ADA — Dr. Mark Hollingsworth and Dr. Starla Hibler, music faculty members at East Central University, will present a concert of music for clarinet and piano at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Dorothy Summers Theatre. Admission is free.

Performance selections include “Theme and Variations” by Jean Francaix, “Rumanian Whirling Dance” by James Sclater, “Time Pieces” by Robert Muczynski and “Variations on a Russian Romance” by Ernesto Cavallini.

Hollingsworth, professor of music and chair of the Department of Music, has taught at ECU since 1986 and has been the Music Department chair since 2003.

As a clarinetist, he has performed with the Madison Symphony, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Des Moines Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the East Texas Symphony. As a jazz saxophone player, he performs regularly with the Moonlighters Dance Band and the ECU Faculty Jazz Combo.

An advocate of World Music, Hollingsworth is also an accomplished performer on the Scottish bagpipes and is a member of the Arbroath Pipe band of Oklahoma City.

He previously taught at Campbell University in North Carolina.

He holds degrees from the University of the Pacific, University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of North Texas.

Starla Hibler, professor of music, has taught at ECU since 1991. In April she will be featured as the pianist in Mozart’s “G Minor Piano Quartet” at the Noontime Concert Series at the University of Chicago’s Fulton Recital Hall.

She is active nationally as a soloist, accompanist and chamber music performer. As an active member of the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association, College Music Society and Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs, she serves regularly as a clinician and adjudicator.

In 1987 she was the first prize and recital prize winner of the Ernst Krenek Competition/Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition held in Palm Desert, Calif.

She was named “Outstanding Adan in the Arts” in 2001 by the Ada Arts Council.

During the summers of 2005-2008, she was on the piano faculty of the Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony’s Piano and String Camp in Eureka Springs, Ark.

She also is the organist/choirmaster for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ada.

Hibler holds doctor of musical arts and master of music degrees in piano performance from the University of North Texas where she studied with Joseph Banowetz.

She received a bachelor of music degree in piano performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and has studied at the Vienna Conservatory in Vienna, Austria.
