Club News, March 20, 2008
Chimney Hill chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution met Feb. 12 at Ada Arts and Heritage Center. The ritual was led by Regent Lou Ann Hoover, assisted by Karen Anderson and Jessie Glover.
American History co- chairman Kathy Howry and Elaine Bearden presented the students who were winners in the American History Essay contest. The topic was “I Spy-Espionage” during the American Revolution. Reading their essays were Carley Netherton, fifth grade, Willard School; Adam Daniel, sixth grade, Home School; Madelyn Henning, seventh grade, Ada Junior High School; Cade Stanford, seventh grade, second place, Ada Junior High School; and Alicia Daniel, eighth grade, Home School.
Hostesses were Ann Klepper, Ruth Ann Taylor, Fay Perry, and Derrelyn Metz. Patriotic decorations of red, white, and blue were used.
Guests attending were John and Lauren Netherton, Charlene Netherton, Ann Dotson, Mamie and Richard Thompson, Betty Thompson, Melissa Pope, Paula Pope, Sarah and Mike Henning, Hayden Robinson, Susan Stanford, Miranda Stanford, Lisa Brinlee and teachers June Hughes and Linda Forester. Members attending were Jessie Glover, Arletta Good, Mary Murray, Jean Kelley, Sara Pritchett, Karen Anderson, Elaine Bearden, Glendeen Unsell, Dana Hill, Suzanne McFarlane, June Sims, Judy Hisaw, Erna Leach, and Phyllis Inslee.
Gladiolus Club
ADA — Ada Gladiolus Club met Tuesday, Feb 12, at the home of Joyce Craig for the regular monthly meeting. The meeting was called to order by Joyce Craig. The Gardeners Creed and Conservation Pledge were read in unison by the club members. The treasurer's report was given and dues paid. Plans were discussed for the March meeting.
Flower of the month was the primrose. The primrose is a spring blooming plant which sometimes reappears in the fall. They are a wonderful mass of blooms when planted with spring blooming bulbs.
Luncheon with a Valentine motif was served to those attending by the hostess Joyce Craig to Jane Curry, Joan McGaha, Emogene Miller, Dollie Nelson, Jo Lee Tipton, and Doris West.
Salvation Army
ADA — The nominating committee for Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and Salvation Army Advisory Board presented its slate of officers for the coming year at the Feb. 8 meeting.
The 2008 officers will be Dorene McAlister, president; Rose Faerman, vice president; Cindy Davis, secretary; Rebecca Walker, treasurer; Roberta Summers, chaplain; and Pam Mauch, historian.
The meeting was chaired by Martha Freeman, president. Capt. Lori Lucas said prayer before the meal.
Lucas gave the devotional on love and read I Corithians 13.
Rebecca Walker presented a report on the camp fund. The auxiliary sponsors area youth to summer camp. Cost per camper this year will be $190 for a week. The auxiliary’s goal is to sponsor 20 children.
Lucas told the auxiliary of needs at the Thrift Store and reported on the upcoming divisional auxiliary workshop.
