Miss Ada pageant plans under way

ADA — The 2010 Miss Ada Scholarship Pageant and the Miss Ada Outstanding Teen Pageant will be held Nov. 23 at the new Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on the camps of East Central University. The pageant continues to grow in popularity and this year will be no exception. Ada’s own, and newly crowned Miss Oklahoma, Taylor Treat, will be a guest this year.

The Miss America Scholarship Pageant organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance last year. The Miss Ada Pageant has made available more than $10,000 since its reinstatement in 2006. The Miss Ada Board encourages the involvement of junior high, high school and university young women in the scholarship pageant. East Central University provides a one-year scholarship to the newly crowned Miss Ada and a one semester scholarship to the first runner up. Also, Miss Ada 2010 will go on to represent Ada at the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant which, in turn, could go on to compete in the Miss America Pageant.

Applications for the Miss Ada Pageant and Miss Ada Outstanding Teen Pageant are available in the counselor’s offices of the junior high and high schools in Pontotoc County as well as in fine arts offices at ECU. They are also available in the offices of Pat Sutton and Evelyn Martin at ECU. Finally, they are available online at missadapageant.com. Completed applications are due on Nov. 2.

Young women ages 13-17 are eligible to participate in the Miss Ada Outstanding Teen Pageant and young women ages 17-24 are eligible for the Miss Ada Pageant. Questions regarding the pageant may be directed to Pat Sutton or Evelyn Martin, co-directors, on the Miss Ada Pageant Website.
