Riders remember Plainfield teen

By Brenda L. Holmes

PLAINFIELD — Motorcycle riders from as far as Evansville recently converged on Hog Heaven in Plainfield to honor the memory of Jordan House, a local teen who died just over a year ago.

The family organized Jordan’s Ride as a fund raising event for the Jordan House Memorial Fund which awards scholarships to Plainfield High School seniors.

“It was a day of celebration and to show honor in remembering Jordan,” said Dana House, Jordan’s mother. “We were surrounded by family, friends, our community, and most importantly, our church family.”

She said the riders could not have asked for a more beautiful day for the event.

“The weather was beautiful,” she said. “The ride began with a word of prayer from Justin White, our minister at Plainfield Christian Church.”

The Plainfield Police Department got involved by helping to escort the 40 plus riders from Hog Heaven.

The event was also used to promote the work of the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO).

Jordan House died from complications stemming from meningitis. Dana and Andy House made sure their daughter’s organs could be donated to help others.

“IOPO has been a huge part of helping our family through the grieving process,” Dana said. “Several employees of the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization came to show their support. Two of the IOPO employees came from Evansville, Ind. That really touched Andy and I, to know how much they care about our family.”

To date, the ride has raised $1,400 for the memorial fund. Organizers said they will continue to hold Jordan’s Ride annually on the Saturday before Father’s Day.

“We appreciate Hog Heaven and their staff for all their hard work and dedication the last two years for making this event possible,” Dana said.

She said they family also owes a big “thank you” to Paul Hoopengarner, owner of PH Current Electric in Plainfield, who organized the route.

“The support from these two local businesses made this day a huge success,” she said.

The family said the community has been very compassionate since the passing of their daughter.

“We will never be able to thank all the people that helped us through our tragedy,” Dana said. “We want you to know if you helped in any way, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you all.”

Donations may be made to the Jordan House Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third bank.
