Two in custody after pair of invasion robberies

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD officers arrested two men Sunday night after two home invasion robberies on the westside.

James Motley, 26, and Michael Davis, 18, both of Indianapolis, each were arrested for robbery and criminal confinement.

Late Sunday night, IMPD was dispatched to 427 Polaris Drive in response to a report of a person shot. Police arrived to find three people injured from a home invasion robbery. Injured were Zutan Shi, 73, Yue Dong, 68, and Peng Chen, 53.

Andy Shi, the grandson of two of the injured victims, translated for the officers as the victims only spoke Mandarin Chinese.

According to a police report, Zutan Shi was bleeding from his head and had severe swelling and bruising on the left side of his face; Dong suffered swelling and bleeding from his face; and Chen suffered swelling, bruising, and bleeding from the left side of his face.

Wayne Township Medic 82 responded to the scene to treat the victims.

Through translation, Dong told police that someone rang the doorbell several times. When she answered the door, she said, two black males then burst through the door and attacked the family. She said that one of the suspects had a pistol in his hand and fired a round into the floor. The family also stated that a third black male stood outside on the porch.

Wallets were stolen from Andy Shi, Zutan Shi, and Chen.

Police spoke to a neighbor who reported seeing a white, mid-1990s Chevy Lumina parked near the house. He said that he heard loud noises coming from the east and saw two black males in black hoodies running westbound in the street. He said that one of the males was carrying a backpack and that they got into the Lumina.

Later that night, police were dispatched to 122 Rockshire on a report of an armed robbery in progress.

Upon arrival, police spoke with Richard Pollard, Kwame Ramey, Darnel Smith, and Brandon Smith, who claimed that they were robbed at gun point by three unknown black males.

The four said that earlier in the evening they were approached by three black males while in a parking lot smoking and listening to music. After attempting to steal a necklace, the men left.

After they left the car, they were approached by the suspects who dressed in black, wearing masks, and carrying handguns.

While the suspects were assaulting the men and robbing them, Pollard was able to get away and enter the Bob Evans on the corner of Rockville and High School roads, where he called 911.

The suspects were found and arrested near the scene.
