Accident sends one to hospital

AVON — A two-car collision Tuesday sent one to the hospital and both cars away on tow trucks.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. in a construction zone just north of the intersection of Dan Jones Road and U.S. 36 when a Saturn VUE and a Cadillac CTS collided.

Avon Police Department Officer Joseph Ramsbey said, “Basically, the SUV, the Saturn, was pulling out from the Avon Station parking lot, which is where Burger King is, and (the driver) was heading north and didn’t see the Cadillac that was already on Dan Jones heading north. She just pulled out and hit her.”

The names of those involved in the accident were not available as of press time.

The injured person was in the Cadillac and was transported to Clarian West Hospital by an Avon-Washington Township ambulance.

Avon-Washington Township Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Thompson said the woman had minor, non-life threatening injuries.

“She actually had just had surgery on her leg and was on her way to the hospital or doctor’s office to get a check-up and was in the back seat (of the Cadillac). She was not trapped, she just couldn’t get herself out,” Thompson said.

There is construction going on around the area of the accident, though Ramsbey said he was not sure if that played a part in the accident.

“People just need to pay more attention, especially in a work zone,” Thompson said.
