Robbed at gunpoint

Police search for suspect in manhunt

By Randy Mitchell

Staff Writer

ADA — Ada police were out in full force Tuesday morning searching for armed robbery suspects.

According to Assistant Police Chief Carl Allen, three suspects, one male and two females, robbed the Sooner Stop convenience store on N. Broadway.

Allen said the trio fled the store after the robbery. A police officer on routine patrol was nearby when the call went out about the robbery. The officer turned onto Pruitt Road and spotted the suspects' vehicle.

After seeing the officer, the suspects pulled into a resident’s driveway near the intersection of Pruitt Road and U.S. 377. Allen said the three scattered and ran into the woods.

The two female suspects were found and arrested. Police set up a large perimeter and officers from several different law enforcement agencies searched the area.

The Ada Police Critical Incident Response Team was brought in to search the woods and a neighborhood near Pruitt Road. Worried residents stood at their windows and on their porches watching the drama unfold.

Police searched vehicles that were leaving the neighborhood. Nervous dogs paced behind their fences as heavily armed officers combed the area. According to radio traffic, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol helicopter armed with infrared technology was en route from Oklahoma City to help locate the suspect.

Valley View EMS was on scene in case of injury to any officers or suspects. The identity of the suspects was not available at press time. Police were still searching for the male suspect at press time.

Updates will be posted at adaeveningnews.com and more information will be available in Wednesday’s edition of AEN.
