Flames damage home

Ada — An Ada residence was heavily damaged by fire Monday.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 1000 block of south Constant just after 3 p.m. Ada Fire Marshal Justin Priest said two people were in the home when the fire started.

One of the residents smelled smoke and searched the home for the source. He went outside and saw smoke coming from roof vents and called 911.

Firefighters arrived and fought flames and extreme heat to save the home from being a total loss.

Valley View EMS personnel were on scene giving firefighters water to keep them from getting dehydrated in the high heat and humidity as they worked mostly on the roof and outside.

Additional firefighters from separate shifts were called in to relieve the original shift whose members were nearing exhaustion after gaining control of the fire.

“The hot weather takes it out of them,” Priest said.

The cause was electrical and started near the power ventilator, Priest said. The attic and roof sustained heavy damage.

The lower half of the home suffered smoke damage and a small amount of water damage. Officials estimated the damage to the residence at $67,000.
