County sheriff’s deputies find, destroy pot crop

By Randy Mitchell

Staff Writer

ADA — Pontotoc County sheriff’s deputies located and destroyed a crop of marijuana plants northwest of Garr Corner Tuesday after receiving a tip.

Sheriff John Christian said deputies removed approximately 70 plants in all which ranged in height from three to five feet.

“The marijuana plants were planted next to brush piles and had been cultivated,” Christian said. “The plants were located after information was received from an individual stopped by Ada police officers during a routine traffic stop.”

Christian said he made the decision to remove the plants due to the unlikelihood of catching the persons responsible for the cultivation because of the remoteness of the area involved.

“The marijuana plants were transported to an undisclosed location in Pontotoc County, where a hole was dug and the plants were burned before filling the hole back in,” Christian said. “The destruction of the marijuana plants was witnessed by officers from the Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police. Documentation of the destruction was verified by photographic record.”
