NOTEWORTHY: In a game rescheduled from Aug. 12 that was rained out and that was orginally planned for a home game, Konawa (No. 9 in Class 2A) was impressive against perennial power Davenport (No. 4 in Class A). KHS hurler Melanie Gladden fired a three-hit shutout and got plenty of offensive support. Brooklyn Akerman led the Konawa charge, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the Lady Tigers’ 10-hit attack. Ciara Kuestersteffen had two hits and two RBIs for the locals.

COACHES QUOTE: “We finally put a complete effort together. This was by far our best outing on the season. We palyed well defensively and had some timely hits to score runs,” — Konawa head coach Jennifer Matthews.

Kyle's RBI single in the second gave Byers all the run support she needed, and Kyle also had an RBI single to highlight a three-run sixth that gave her pitcher some breathing room. McCullar wrapped up the scoring with a two-run double in the seventh off tough-luck loser Neicole Thompson, who allowed just four hits.

She struck out 14 in the complete-game shutout and helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Kara Penson and Harley Davis both forced in runs via bases-loaded walks in the top of the second to break the scoreless tie.

The Longhorns put the game away with a 10-run second inning that featured Josh Scribner’s two-run double, Logan’s Reed’s RBI double and run-scoring singles by Wendel Taylor and Zeke Munday.

Cornell’s three-run blast in the second gave the Tigers a 4-0 lead, and his grand slam in the fourth accounted for the game’s final runs. He also singled home a run in the third, which featured a solo home run by Dayne Parker. The victory earned Roff a semifinal showdown with Soper, which handed the Tigers their only loss of the season Saturday in the finals of the Tupelo Tournament.
