Car crashes into deer; woman gives firefighters bird

Stonewall — A woman was injured Wednesday night when the car she was driving collided with a deer.

Information on her identity and age was unavailable although Stonewall firefighter Michelle Morrison said the woman was around 80 years old.

She was driving west on State Highway 3E just west of Stonewall when the large buck ran out in front of her Nissan Altima. After the collision the vehicle skidded off the road.

There was some confusion as the woman reported she was between Tupelo and Stonewall in Coal County. Coal County EMS and Coalgate and Tupelo firefighters responded before Stonewall and Valley View EMS were called.

The driver complained of wrist pain and had a large laceration to her right arm. She was taken to Valley View Regional Hospital where she was treated and released.

At the scene, the woman’s main concern was for a frozen turkey she had just purchased. She told firefighters to take it with them — so it wouldn’t ruin — and enjoy it.

Stonewall firefighters opted to let Coalgate firefighters have the frozen bird.

“They work (at their station) all night, we don’t,” Morrison said.
