Chase ends in crash, arrest

Randy Mitchell Staff Writer

Roff An Allen man was arrested on multiple complaints after he reportedly led police on a high speed chase Wednesday night.

The chase ended when the driver, Roger Wade Borders, 41, slid off the road into a tree. The pursuit began when Roff Police Officer Gabe Alexander attempted a traffic stop on Border’s Chevrolet pickup in Roff.

Borders reportedly drove away going north on County Road 3470, also known as Lightning Ridge Road. Alexander said speeds reached 90 miles per hour at times.

Pontotoc County sheriff’s deputies were en route and surprised Borders when he drove over a hill near the intersection of CR 3470 and CR 1570, also known as Farm to Market Road.

Alexander said it looked like Borders panicked and ran off the road to the right, overcorrected and slid sideways off the road to the left.

The pickup skidded into a small tree.

Alexander was able to take Borders into custody despite working in heavy brush. Numerous weapons were found in the pickup including several guns.

Borders was arrested on suspicion of failure to stop at a stop sign, attempting to elude, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and transporting a loaded firearm.
