ADA — More than 10 people were arrested in Ada after a drug raid involving several houses Wednesday morning.
The arrests were preceded by more than one year of investigation by the Ada Police Narcotics Unit (APNU), the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Law enforcement raided several houses in the pre-dawn hours and arrested William Don Cubitt, 62; Sally Harris, 44; James Dean Brown, 50; Vallerie Veal, 49; Susan Hess, 46; Marcus Rogers, 24; Daryl Sanders, 49; Mona Seals, 64; and three other people whose identities were unavailable by press time.
All are from Ada and were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. Arrests were also made throughout the morning in Sulphur, Davis, Pauls Valley and Wagoner.
Agents from APNU, OBN, DEA, Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse police, District 22 Task Force and Pontotoc County sheriff’s department gathered at Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse police headquarters in the early morning hours for briefing. Afterwards, convoys of law enforcement vehicles sped away en route to several houses in Ada and the other cities involved.
At one home in the 100 block of E. Third, after a quick set up at a staging area, police and agents made their way to the house, moving quietly on foot up the street in the dark.
The silence was interrupted by loud knocking and shouting.
“Police, search warrant!” they shouted as they banged on the door. “Police, search warrant!”
Police then used a battering ram and broke the door in. Three people inside were taken into custody without incident. Neighbors stepped out onto their porches to see the commotion.
“Police serving a search warrant, for your own safety go back in your homes,” police said.
All of the arrests were a result of an investigation into a Fort Worth, Texas man who police say was supplying crack cocaine to dozens of people in central Oklahoma.
Jeffrey Scott was arrested two weeks ago and is being held in Pontotoc County jail with a $500,000 bond. Ada Police Captain Jeff Crosby, who along with other agents, arrested Scott, who now faces federal charges.
Crosby said Scott is suspected of supplying crack cocaine to all the people arrested Wednesday. Mark Woodward, spokesperson for OBN, said agents were armed with 24 arrest and 14 search warrants this morning.
