Holiday Holla keeps teens safe

ADA - The "holla" composed and performed by Ada High students junior Erica Poe and seniors Kelsy Dowd and Ethan Hickerson has been recognized among the nation’s best entries in Allstate’s "Holiday Holla." Local Allstate agent John Ensey recognized the trio for their efforts in promoting safe driving with a check for $1,000.

The teens are asking their community to support them by checking out their video from Nov. 7 – 21, 2008 at www.KeeptheDrive.com. Based on total votes, they may have the chance to perform live in front of celebrity judge Kate Voegele at the Mall of America on Dec. 6, and a chance to win the $10,000 grand prize.

Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens and the holiday season is a deadly driving time. To give teens the chance to help reverse these statistics while spreading some holiday cheer, The Allstate Foundation – through Keep the Drive, it’s national teen-to-teen smart driving movement – invited teens from across the country to participate in “Holiday Holla.”

The online caroling contest challenged teens to rewrite and perform (or “holla”) traditional holiday carols with new lyrics about smart driving. The teens’ video is called “Holiday Teen Safe Driving Mix Up” and can be viewed at http://www.holidayholla.com/videos/.
