Postage rates increase

First class stamp now costs 39 cents

Got a roll of 37-cent stamps sitting around? Then it’s time purchase a roll of two-cent stamps to go with that outdated roll.

Postage rates climbed two-cents this past Sunday, making it 39-cents to send a first-class stamped letter, and 24-cents for a postcard. Other postage rates will increase as well, such as express and priority mail rates.

Priority mail will cost $4.05 per pound, up from $3.85; express-mail rates climb from $13.65 to $14.40 per half-pound, and from $17.85 to $18.80 for up to two pounds.

The postage increase is the fourth since 1999, when the cost of a first-class stamp went from 32-cents to 33-cents. The last postage increase was a 3-cent rise in June 2002, to 37-cents.
