At its January 9 meeting, the Butts County Board of Commissioners set qualifying fees for the 2006 elections. Those seeking election to the Board of Commissioners must pay a $225 qualifying fee, and those seeking a seat on the Board of Education must pay a $144 fee.
Up for election this year are the offices District 3 and 4 on the Board of Commissioners, currently held by Eddie Travis and John Harkness respectively. On the Board of Education, the seats from District 1, 2, and 5 are up for grabs. Larry Morgan, Ernest Battle, and Roland Lee currently hold those seats.
Qualifying for Board of Commissioners is April 24 at 9 a.m. through April 28 at noon on the dot. The partisan primary will be held on July 18. Qualifying for non-partisan election to the Board of Education will begin from June 26 at 9 a.m. and run through June 30 12 noon on the dot. The location for qualifying has not yet been determined as the Board of Elections and Registrars is moving into the new county administration building.
