Jim Peck

Michael Lee Peck, 49, died January 30, 2006.

Survivors include: his mother, Marlene Peck; two brothers, Steve and David Peck; two nieces, Michelle Peck and Caroline Peck, and two nephews, Justin Peck and Ryan Peck. The family requests that contributions be made in Peck’s memory to Ministry of the Blessed, Northwoods Baptist Church, 2605 Chamblee Tucker Road; Chamblee, GA 30341.

Geraldine Washington

Gerladine Greer Washington, 95, of 139 Kinard’s Mill Road, Jackson, died late Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at her residence.

She was born in Butts County on January 10, 1911, the daughter of the late Nathan Lawrence Greer and Cecil Bankston Greer. She was the wife of the late George Wilmer Washington, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Grove Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, George and Jan Washington of Jackson; daughter, Angelyn Washington, of Jackson; grandchildren, Brandon and Amy Washington, and one great grandchild, McKenzie Washington; predeceased brother and sister, Russell Greer and Carolyn Greer.

Funeral services for Geraldine Washington were held on Saturday, February 4 in the chapel of the Haisten Funeral Home. Dr. Bruce Calhoun officiated with interment in the Mt. Vernon Church Cemetery. Those desiring to make a contribution to the Towaliga Baptist Church Organ Fund, P.O. Box 674, Jackson, GA. 30233. Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson was in charge of arrangements.



William Wright

William C. (Bill) “Red” Wright, 78, died peacefully in the presence of his family in his Flowery Branch home on Tuesday, January 31, 2006.

He was born to the late Laura John Allen and the late Clyde Thomas Wright of Brookhaven on September 27, 1927. Bill led a full life of energy, curiosity and enthusiasm that touched his family and his community for years. In recent years, Bill played the role of Santa Claus at malls and events in Flowery Branch and North Georgia, including the annual Magical Nights of Lights at Lake Lanier Islands. In 2005, Bill served as Grand Marshal of the Flowery Branch Christmas Parade. Before his retirement to Flowery Branch, Bill owned and operated Wright Tune Up in Chamblee for 41 years. During this time he patented several tools still used in the auto repair business.

Bill was active in many civic organizations in the North DeKalb area. He was a charter member of the Chamblee-Doraville Businessmen’s Association, a former member of the North DeKalb Rotary Club, founding scoutmaster of Cub Scout Park 66 (at Brookhaven United Methodist Church) and a member of the Masons for more than 50 years. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, hobbyist and folk musician, enjoying and sharing numerous interests through the years. He was a blacksmith at the Atlanta Historical Center and an active member of the North Georgia Whittlers. Bill’s children remember their home as the base for homecoming floats, Cub Scout meetings, cookouts and more. A 1945 graduate of Atlanta’s Tech High School, Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Bill received his fixed wings pilot’s license in the 1940s and became well known across the country as a hot air balloonist in the 1970s, ‘80s and early ‘90s. Bill was a former member of the Brookhaven United Methodist Church in Atlanta, and a current member of Flowery Branch Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Harwell Wright; daughter, Joan Wright Duncan and her finance, Roger Bourdon of Taylors, S.C.; son, John Wright, and his wife Nelda of Flowery Branch; daughter Janice LaFramboise and her husband, Joe of Canadian Lakes, MI; son, Jeff Wright and his wife, Kelly of Oxford, GA; brother Rev. Ben Wright and his wife, Gerry of Jackson, GA; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one niece and one nephew; and preceded in death by son-in-law Danny Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s name to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainsville, GA 30501. Funeral Services were held Friday and 2 p.m. at Memorial Park South Chapel. Rev. Sally Oakes and Rev. Ben Wright officiated.



Myrtle Whitted

Myrtle Ball Whitted, age 84, of McDonough died peacefully Friday, February 3, 2006 at Westbury Medical Center in Jackson.

She was born in Durham, NC to the late George E. and Zola Ball. She was married to her soul mate, J.B. Whitted, of 62 years before his passing in 2001. Even during the last few days of her life, her sense of humor showed through. She loved life, God, her family and friends. She was a talented seamstress and very creative in arts and crafts. She will be missed by many friends and family.

Survivors include: four daughters, Susie Whitted Irwin of McDonough, Debra Whitted Toney of Jackson, Nancy Whitted O’Neil of Juno Beach, FL, Betty Ann Whitted of Charlotte, NC; two sons, James M. Whitted of Los Angeles, CA, William M. Whitted of Peachtree City; 13 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Phil Shroeder officiating. Interment will follow at the College Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 7, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
