Herbert Niklaus

Herbert F. Niklaus, age 89, died peacefully, Thursday, February 2, 2006 at his home in Stark. He was born in Telescope, PA, to the late Charles Frederick and Florence Niklaus. He led a life of energy, curiosity and enthusiasm. Before his retirement in 1980, Herb was Chief Engineer at WJTN radio station at Jamestown N.Y., where he worked since about 1940. Herb served as an Army Air Force fighter pilot in the 353rd Fighter Group at Raydon Field, England, during World War II. He was a first lieutenant and received several decorations, including the fourth Oak Leaf Cluster. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margie B. Niklaus; son James Niklaus of Aurora, CO; son William F. Niklaus and his wife Eugenia of Wheatridge, CO; adoptive son Juergen O.A. Franz and his wife Heidrun of Potomac, MD; sister Hertha O. Dutton of North East, PA; and several nephews. The Memorial Service was held Sunday, February 5 at 4 p.m. at England Chapel Church. Rev. Lou Scales and Deacon Linda Scales officiated.
