Harold Cook
Mr. Harold Eugene Cook, Sr., 81, of Jackson, died early Saturday morning, March 10, 2006 at the Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin.
Mr. Cook was born May 6, 1924 in Jasper County. He was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Cook and Elma Moore Cook. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman. Mr. Cook was on Iwo Gima during the flag raising. He was a retired Civil Service employee at Warner Robins Air Force Base for 24 years. Mr. Cook was a member of the Jenkinsburg Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Bohannon Cook of Jackson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Eugene Cook, Jr. and Anne; Dennis Shaw Cook and Susan, all of Marietta; Stanley Allen Cook and Barbara of Crawford, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Tommy Lee of Lincolnton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Harold Eugene Cook, Sr. were held Sunday, March 12, 2006 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson. The interment followed in the Jenkinsburg Cemetery.
Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson was in charge of arrangements.
Tommie Evans
Mrs. Tommie Lou Holder Evans, 83, of Shiloh, formerly of Jackson and Butts County, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Saint Frances Hospital in Columbus.
Mrs. Evans was born September 1, 1922 in Henry County. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Holder and the late Nanny Mae Kelly Holder. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Horace Evans of Shiloh; one daughter and son-in-law, John and Horace Fuller of Warm Springs; two sisters, Ella Capps of Sylvester; Macie Thompson of McDonough; daughter-in-law, Mary Frances Roberts Passmore of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Stacy Fuller and Bart Fuller, Cindy, Kristy, Gena and Gene Passmore; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Fuller, Brooke Fuller and Caitlin Fuller; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Johnny and Alex Deloach, Jack Tapa and Kim Weatherly. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Evans; grandson, Chris Fuller; sister, Lois Holder; brothers, Carl, Dewey, Odelle and Emory Holder.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tommie Lou Holder Evans were held Monday, March 13, 2006 from the Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Rev. “Red” Roberson officiating. The interment followed in the Flovilla City Cemetery.
The Sherrell, Wilson, Mangham Funeral Home of Jackson was in charge of arrangements.
John Rivers
Mr. John Chester Rivers, 66, of Jackson, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin.
Mr. Rivers was born March 1, 1940 in Butts County. He was the son of the late Chester Rivers and the late Kate Lewis Rivers. He was a well-known cattleman in the middle Georgia area.
Survivors include his wife, Alice C. Rivers of Jackson; one daughter, Amanda Kate Rivers of Lawrenceville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Linda Rivers; Glen and Deborah Rivers, all of Jackson; his aunt, Mrs. Bamie Cook of Jackson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. John Chester Rivers will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. from the Sherrell Memorial Chapel with Dr. Ed Hoard officiating. The interment will follow in the Jackson City Cemetery. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, those desiring make contributions to Noah’s Ark, 712 Locust Grove-Griffin Road, Locust Grove, Georgia 30248.
