Henderson Tigers, Lady Tigers out

Season ends for both teams in region tournament

By Chad Feltman

They were the best two basketball teams during the regular season, but in the playoffs the Henderson Tigers and Lady Tigers couldn’t hold their dominance together to bring home the region championship.

As he did during football season, Athletic Director Charlie Biles won two coin tosses to ensure the Tigers and Lady Tigers would play at home for the duration of the playoffs. But, unfortunately, even home court advantage couldn’t guarantee championships.

After leading for most of the first half, the Tigers fell behind in the second before falling to Cowan Road in the first round of the Central Georgia Middle School Athletic League tournament. The loss by the Tigers was a shock to every Henderson fan. The Tigers entered the tournament as the number one seed but couldn’t stop Cowan Road from pulling away in the final quarter.

The defeat shockingly ended the Tigers season and any chance at a region championship.

Head Coach Brenda Sims and the Lady Tigers were also the number one seed in the tournament and advanced all the way to the championship game last Tuesday. But, one single point in the 37-36 loss kept the Lady Tigers away from hoisting what many thought was going to be a for sure championship trophy.

Both teams present very promising futures to the programs at Jackson High School for the upcoming seasons as the Tigers and Lady Tigers put up amazing records and were both crowned regular season sub-region champs.

In the end the though, it was Lady Tigers posting the better record at 14-2, and the Tigers record wasn’t too shabby either, going 10-4 despite a mid-season coaching change.
