Missouri hunters kill 8,300 turkeys during fall season

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri hunters have killed more turkeys this fall than last year, but this year’s harvest still is the second lowest.

Hunters took more than 8,300 turkeys during the October season. The biggest fall turkey season was in 1987, when more than 28,000 birds were killed.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says the popularity of the fall turkey season waned from 1987 to 2006,while more hunters went out during the spring.

The top counties this fall were Greene County with 266 turkeys, Webster with 223 and Wright with 215.
