Letters to the Editor, Feb. 19, 2008

Dear Editor,

We are writing this letter in support of the March 4th Ada City School bond election. The approval of the bond issue would allow for the construction of a new Pre-K and Kindergarten facility, installation of air-conditioning systems in school cafeterias/gyms, expansion of the junior high cafeteria/gym, enhancing the school systems, kitchen and other well-needed school facility improvements. As the city of Ada continues to flourish and grow with the assistance of our economic growth and infrastructure propositions, it is imperative that we also reinvest in the maintenance of our school activities.

Currently, our children attend Willard, Washington and Glenwood elementary schools. Although their educational experience has been very rewarding, it is clear that our school facilities need help. Ada’s children are forced to endure the heat of summer and late spring while eating their lunches and conducting school performances in school gyms. Glenwood appears to be on borrowed time. Although the faculty and staff at Glenwood are superb, anyone who walks down the halls quickly notices the dilapidated conditions of this school. The junior high gym/cafeteria is not capable of seating all of the students unless some students sit in the bleachers with trays in their laps. The list goes on.

We moved back to this community knowing that our children would receive a quality education. Ada’s school system is filled with many dedicated individuals who are committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for Ada’s youth. A “YES” vote on March 4 is a vote for Ada’s current and future children. Please help to ensure that the students of Ada will have the facilities that will meet the needs of our growing community.

Dear Editor,

Our article in the Ada Evening News caught my attention ... and I firmly believe that we certainly should be allowed to choose the kind of light bulbs we use in our homes and businesses. A friend showed me an article that came out in the Parade section of the Sunday Oklahoman Feb. 10, 2008. It stated “Flickering bulbs have been reported to precipitate migraines or even seizures ... Fluorescent light also can aggravate skin rashes in people. Perhaps most important, the bulbs contain mercury.”

The most interesting part is the fact that they (the fluorescent bulbs) have Mercury in them. We need to stay as far away from that as possible. Please advise your readers to stop buying these bulbs.
